Tribes
Chakma:the Chakma tribe consist of a population of 900000 people and unlike the bengali nation they are tibeto-burmese people thus having a very distinct culture. The Chakma people are spread across Eastern Bangladesh, India, Burma, and China making them a multistate-nation. Within the Chittagong Hill Tracts, they take up half the population thus having a strong influence on the politics in the area. the Chakma people have there own distinct language, culture, and a majority follow the beliefs of Theravada Buddhism in sharp contrast to the majority of Bengalis who practice Islam a monotheistic religion.
Marma:Similar to the Chakma people the Marma people are people of burmese descent hence their name " of Myanmar". They are the second largest group in the Chittagong Hill Tracts with a population of 210000 ,which is very big but not as dominant as the Chakma people thus they receive less political power than the Chakma people.Historically, these people migrated from Burma (now Myanmar) in 14th and 17th Century thus carrying their culture in the form of relocation diffusion, overtime their language and culture has changed as they were isolated from the rest of Myanmar and they developed a sharp cultural contrast from both the Bengali and Burmese people.
